Michael O’Keeffe | Executive Chairman of the Board
Mr. O’Keeffe is the Executive Chairman and CEO of Champion Iron Limited, and the Chairman of Riversdale Resources (which recently acquired “Grassy Mountain”, a Canadian coal asset from Consol Energy and Devon). Michael is a metallurgist and has significant experience and achievement in growing mining resources companies. Some companies previously under Michael’s stewardship include:
- Riversdale Mining Limited (2004-2011), Executive Chairman – Mr. O’Keeffe led the development of Riversdale Mining from a junior with a market cap of A$7 million until it was acquired by Rio Tinto for A$4 billion. During his period at Riversdale Mining, Mr. O’Keeffe raised approximately A$780 million for the company.
- Glencore Australia (Pty) Limited (1995-2004), Managing Director – Mr. O’Keeffe was responsible for Glencore’s Australian trading acquisitions. Under his leadership, Glencore increased its market share in Australia and SE Asia, growing the turnover from US$100 million to US$2.4 billion.
- Mt Isa Mines (1975-1994). At Mt Isa, Mr. O’Keeffe held a series of senior operating positions, rising to Executive Management level in commercial activities. His achievement among others was undertaking feasibility studies into downstream copper smelting and refining opportunities in Europe, Asia, North and South America.
Andrew J. Love, FCA | Non-Executive Director
Mr. Love is a Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years of experience in corporate recovery and reconstruction in Australia. He was a senior partner of Australian accounting firm Ferrier Hodgson from 1976 to 2013 and is now a consultant. In that time he advised major local and overseas companies and financial institutions in a broad variety of restructuring and formal insolvency assignments. During this time Mr. Love specialized in the Resources Industry. Mr. Love has been an independent company director of a number of companies over a 25-year period in the Resources, Financial Services and Property Industries. This has involved corporate experience in Asia, Africa, Canada, United Kingdom and United States. Mr. Love’s previous recent Board positions have included Chairman of ROC Oil Ltd., Deputy Chairman of Riversdale Mining Ltd., Director of Charter Hall Office Trust and Chairman of Museum of Contemporary Art.
Gary Lawler, LLB, LLM | Non-Executive Director
Mr. Lawler has practiced as a corporate mergers and acquisitions lawyer for over 30 years. During that time he has advised many listed companies and investment banks on a wide range of corporate transactions including hostile takeovers, takeover defences, and agreed mergers and corporate reconstructions. Mr. Lawler is also a trusted adviser to many boards on corporate governance matters and has held board positions with Dominion Mining Limited and Riversdale Mining Limited. Peers refer to Mr. Lawler as “being the most prominent and having the highest standing in the M&A market” – IFLR1000, 2011. He is recognized as a leading lawyer in Corporate/M&A by Chambers Global 2011, and M&A and Corporate/Governance by Best Lawyers Australia, 2011.
The Honourable Wayne Wouters, PC | Non-Executive Director
The Honourable Wayne G. Wouters is a Strategic and Policy Advisor with McCarthy Tétrault LLP. Before joining the private sector, Mr. Wouters had a long and illustrious career in the Public Service of Canada. His last assignment was the Clerk of the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet, and Head of the Public Service. Appointed by Prime Minister Harper, Mr. Wouters served from July 1, 2009 until October 3, 2014, at which time he retired from the Public Service of Canada. Prior to this, Mr. Wouters was a Deputy Minister in several departments, including the Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and Secretary of the Treasury Board. In 2014, Mr. Wouters was inducted as a Member of the Privy Council by the Prime Minister.
Michelle Cormier, CPA, CA | Non-Executive Director
Michelle Cormier, CPA, CA, has extensive senior management experience in corporate strategy, finance, human resources and turnaround situations. Prior to joining Wynnchurch, she was Chief Financial Officer of a privately-held company and of a publicly-traded forest products company with operations in Canada and the United States. Mrs Cormier is Operating Partner for the Québec-based investments of Wynnchurch Capital (Canada) Ltd., a $2.3 billion private equity fund. She is an accredited corporate director and has strong knowledge and experience in corporate governance. In addition to Champion Iron Limited, Mrs Cormier serves on the Boards of Directors of Hydro-Québec, Cascades Inc, Uni-Select Inc, Industries Moreau Inc. and Pro-Fab Inc.
